Upgrading the Fuel Mixture for New Exhaust, Intakes, and High Performance Parts
Many a closet mechanic and do it yourselfer feels out of sorts when they peek under the hood of their toy and see that there is no carburetor. Electronic fuel injection, and fuel injector firing sequencing is standard equipment on most machines now to comply with emissions, efficiency, and international standards. As these standards become more stringent, only a computer can keep up.
You aren’t the only one who feels a little out of sorts when it comes to the electronics involved, but really, they are easier than installing new jets in a 4 barrel, provide better response, more power, and more control over the vehicle’s power curve via the same fuel injectors you already have. Anyone can plug in a chip, you don’t even have to get dirty.
We know you just want it so the new down pipe, plugs, wires, and intake get more fuel! So here are the basics. The next page will go over each one of these options in detail.
There is a computer, connected to a maze of sensors, located under the hood of your toy. This computer can tell the temperature of the engine, exhaust, intake, pressure, and much much more multiple times a second. You just need the computer to give the machine more gas………
Basically your options are 4:
1 You can either trick this computer with an aftermarket part
2 Reprogram the computer with 1 chip
3 Upgrade the computer and control the whole thing
4 Add another computer – multiple firing codes to fuel injectors
Each of these methods will program your fuel injectors in each cylinder to fire longer, or more often, and control them independently. You don’t even need a wrench for some, others require a PHD. You can always just increase the size of the fuel injector jets. Call us for help on this one. This is one of those moments you have to evaluate your skill level, and go for it!
